11 July 2014: Dollar Pupils Hold Annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic
An event that, in many ways, truly marks the end of another session of life at Dollar Academy took place on Tuesday 17 June: the annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic. 

 

11 July 2014: Stirling’s Makar, Anita Govan, Coaches Pupils Through ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ Flighting Event

Anita Govan, Stirling’s makar, spent four weeks in May and June working with Mrs Taylor’s FI English class on creative writing and drama.  The result of all this coaching time was a spectacular ‘flighting’ display: a kind of choreographed battle of words and wits and dramatic energy, all inspired by William Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Eve’. 

 

11 July 2014: Prep School Sports Day
If one is going to balance an egg on a spoon, run a three-legged race, hop to the finish in a brightly coloured potato sack or merely run across a stretch of green grass at full tilt, it is rather nice to do it on a day of blue skies, breezes and sunshine. 

 

10 July 2014: Dollar Academy Swimmers Win Gold in Brodies Team Swimming Championships

Some of Dollar Academy’s strongest young swimmers participated in the Brodies Team Championships for Secondary Schools at The Royal Commonwealth Pool, Edinburgh on Wednesday 11 June. 

 

 

10 July 2014: Rosa Loedel (FIV) Wins Gold at Acrobatic Gymnastics British National Finals
Rosa Loedel (FIV) has been named a British Champion as a result of her gold medal win at the Acrobatic Gymnastics British National Finals that took place at Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke over the weekend of 31 May. 

 

9 July 2014:Dollar Academy’s Two Jazz Greats: The Young Scottish Jazz Musician 2014 Final

On Wednesday 26 June, five highly talented young jazz musicians from across Scotland competed in the final of the Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow.  Remarkably, two came from the same school – Dollar Academy.

 

8 July 2014: Dollar Academy Prize Giving

Guests began trickling in to the school’s Assembly Hall around 10:30 am on Thursday 26 June, each parent, relative or friend eagerly anticipating the annual Prize Giving ceremony shortly to take place in the school’s Assembly Hall.

 

27 June 2014: Charities Week 2014

Every year, at this time, the Charities Committee undertakes a series of events during the penultimate week of session which has, appropriately, become known as ‘Charities Week’. 

 

27 June 2014: Junior School Stage ‘The Pirates of Penzance’
This year’s Junior School musical was ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ and it enjoyed a very successful three night run from Wednesday 11 June – Friday 13 June, performing before a full house on each evening.  It had many a FVI pupil hearkening back to their own Junior School performances—as it was seven years ago that ‘Pirates of Penzance’ was last performed on the Dollar Academy stage.

 

27 June 2014: Queen’s Baton Comes to Dollar Academy
On Wednesday 25 June, at around 2 pm, the much-anticipated Queen’s Baton came through Dollar and into Dollar Academy.  The entire student and staff of the Academy were joined by all of Strathdevon Primary’s pupils and many members of the local community to form an eager and delighted audience for the baton as it made its way across Scotland stopping, briefly, at Dollar Academy.
