2011 Dollar Academy Prize Giving ceremony took place at the school on Thursday 30th June with over 130 pupils from the Prep, Junior and Senior Schools being awarded prizes for academic and sporting excellence.

An invited audience of parents, pupils and staff were welcomed with an outstanding musical introduction from Lewis Macdonald, Form V, on the piano with a Handful of Keys by Fats Waller.

Following the Chairman’s remarks by Mr John B Cameron, OBE, the Rector’s report gave an overview of what has been an incredibly successful year at Dollar Academy.

The academic achievement at the school has been excellent, with an exceptional number of university offers for form V and VI, and there was particular note of the outstanding extra curricular merits.

The school session 2010-2011 saw national success for the school magazine team, another round of world championship awards for the school pipe band, continued success for the school’s debating championships, victories for the rugby team, exceptional performances from the cricketers, consecutive wins for the tennis team, and international achievement for the shooters and fencers.  The school musical was a huge success, with 4 sell-out public performances at the McRobert Theatre, and the Dollar Academy charities committee did the school proud with a series of successful events raising money for local and international charities.

The school’s focus on extra-curricular activities allows the pupils of Dollar Academy to develop confidence through performance, but also often to further their own abilities through helping others.  This was a theme reflected in the address given by the principle guest Mrs Abeer Macintyre, Former BBC news Presenter and Head of Supporter Care for Mary’s Meals.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Head Boy, Grant Blair, and Head Girl, Nicole Abel.

This was the last school day for Dollar Academy Form VI, who left the bronze doors as Former Pupils.  we wish them every success in the future.
