Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association

Scottish Champions 2010

Dollar Academy has established itself as Scottish Champions by nudging the current World Champions into second place by one point.  The first of the “Five Majors” was hosted by Dumbarton and attracted over 140 Pipe Bands from all over Scotland.

The hard work did not start on Saturday or, indeed, two weeks ago at the Gourock Highland Games, where four firsts were awarded, but in September when new tunes and drum scores were presented to the Band.

Conscientious practice, coupled with routine and high levels of discipline, produced outstanding results at the George Watson's Mini Bands Competition and also The Glasgow Highland Club Pipe Band Competition.

Below are extracts/comments from the pipers and drummers as they made their way back to Dollar.

Mr Wilson’s face when they readout Dollar as Scottish Champions 2010 is a picture I will remember for the rest of my life.

I was thrilled at hearing the success of the band and glad all our early mornings have been worthwhile.

I was so happy I smiled.

Piping is so much better than fencing.

The band's success was down to the determination of everybody involved and the work of all our instructors who give up all their time for the success of the band.

The sun, the pipes, and the success made me feel proud to be a Dollar Academy pupil.

We didn’t come last in drumming, yay!

I am glad all my family could be there to video camera this momentous occasion. My mum made sausage rolls in celebration.

It was brilliant as the World Champions, George Watson's, came across to congratulate us on our success. It was fantastic that our biggest rivals were congratulating us rather than the other way about.

To beat the World Champions 3 times in 3 competitions is an amazing reward for all the hard work put in by everyone in the band.

I guess its alright we won, but I missed Over the Rainbow!

Unfortunately, I did not hear the result, I still had my headphones in.

For the first time in my life my skin is redder than my hair.

Me and my drone tuner will sleep well tonight, knowing that we have done our jobs.
