HOUSE EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

Argyll Easter Party 24th April 2011

The Summer Term went off to a great start with the annual Easter Party.  The slightly chilly wind couldn’t dampen our spirits as we were all running across the campus for our Easter Egg Hunt.  Some of the clues were trickier than others, and Catriona won the first prize for best effort in the Hunt.  She did not just have to find her Easter Basket filled with yummy chocolates, but also had to collect a number of items of clothing from McNabb House on her way.

With everyone being exhausted and hungry after all the running around, the first barbecue of this year went down a real treat.  Despite the cold, no-one wanted to go back inside and was happy to just sit and socialise for a while.

Thanks to everyone involved for making this year’s Easter Party yet another big success.

Argyll House – Term 2 activities

Although the second term mainly focusses on academic work, the Argyll girls also had plenty of opportunities to enjoy social events and activities in January and February.  Apart from a few cinema and shopping outings, the highlights this term have included so far:

Chinese New Year:  Chinese-style decorations (kindly provided by Catriona and her family) went up and everyone received a little present for good luck along with their Chinese food.

Burns‘ Supper:  A great opportunity for everyone in Form VI to dress up and have a lovely evening with food and speeches.

Get togethers:  Heyworth have invited the Argyll girls a couple of times -

One evening for an extremely informative but also entertaining talk on "Healthy Eating“, followed by a healthy and scrumptous supper.

One Saturday evening for  a cinema night with Popcorn and a glass of wine.

Thanks so much to all involved in organising all of these events.

Christmas Activities 2010

Christmas Party:  After a dinner at Vecchia Bologna in Bridge of Allan with the whole house, we came back to the boarding house to open the presents from the Brookses and the ladies who work in the house.  They included Nintendo Wii games, chocolates and presents for each one of us.  These were all very personal, such as a book about your horoscope or a mug with something on it.  Our junior boarders had also prepared a most entertaining dorm play, centred on a stolen Christmas tree, with the Rector as the criminal, very convincingly portrayed by Xiny He.  We all had an amazing time and, after that, stayed up late to watch one of our new DVDs, “Angels and Demons”.  This Christmas has been full of activities; we have had late-night shopping with the switching on of the Christmas lights in Dollar, Christmas shopping in Glasgow, we went to the Pantomime “Snow White” and we still have the Boarders’ Dinner and Ceilidh to look forward to.  Overall Christmas, in the boarding house has been amazing.  Doing all these activities together has made the house even closer and we are more like a family than ever.  Thank you to all the ladies, the Brookses and Kim and Olivia for organising all of these events.

"BRILLIANT!" (Form VI)

Argyll Halloween Party on 30th October 2010

For this year’s Halloween Party we invited the Heyworth girls to join in our scary treasure hunt and the messy games.  „The decorations and lights in the house created the right spooky atmosphere for the evening.“  The prize for the best dress went to the 118 duo from Heyworth – Alison and Chelsey deserved the prize as they certainly looked the part.  After the pumpkin carving competition, the Sixth Year girls in Argyll put in a great effort to set up one of the scariest treasure hunts yet.  „The Spider Web outside was truly amazing“ (Form III) and the screams from upstairs were louder than ever.

Amongst the favourite messy games were:

Apple dooking.

The doughnut game.

The dead man’s body parts.

"I cannot wait to be in Form VI for payback time.  The Seniors did a great job.  It was really fun.“ (Form I)

After all the excitement everyone was happy to share some lovely desserts, amongst them strawberries, toffee and chocolate apples, and a yummy chocolate birthday cake as we all got together to celebrate Xinyi’s 14th birthday.

"It was great fun to have the Halloween Party on my birthday.  All the girls remembered it and I had so much fun with all the games.“

Thanks so much to all the Form VI girls and the staff for organising this great party.

Argyll outing to Go Country  Waterpark on 26th September 10

After we squeezed ourselves into wetsuits and very tight wet boots, we were ready to throw ourselves into the freezing water.  Once we got over the first shock of the ice-cold water seeping inside the wetsuits, we had to keep moving to get warm and tackle the inflatable obstacle course.  The inflatables did not look too daunting from the lakeside, but once we swam up to them, they were nearly insurmountable.  With team effort, we managed to climb up most of them and had great fun.  To warm up afterwards, we had a lovely picnic with lots of hot chocolate in glorious sunshine.  A great afternoon out was followed by a take away back at Argyll.  Full and shattered, everyone was happy to get to bed early that night.

Treasure Hunt and BBQ, Sunday 28 August 2010

The new session went off to a great start with the annual Argyll Treasure Hunt and BBQ.  This year the Heyworth girls were also invited to join in the fun.  The senior girls of both houses organised an entertaining treasure hunt around the campus, which was followed by a number of team games and a BBQ.  All of these activities took place in sunny weather and were greatly enjoyed by everyone.  The Form VI girls felt that “it was good fun to organise the day and seeing all the girls having so much fun.”
