PAYMENT OF SCHOOL FEES
Full details about the payment of fees, together with Direct Debit mandate forms, will be mailed to all parents in early June 2010 but, in brief, the main points to note are as follows:
Fees should be paid by Direct Debit, wherever possible. All new parents, and those not previously signed up to the Direct Debit scheme, will be asked to complete and return a mandate to the Bursar’s Office by 6th July 2010. Fees not paid in this way are expected to be paid in full by, or on, the first day of the term for which they are due.
Direct Debit payments entail 9 monthly installments (3 per term). Additional charges, e.g. Music tuition or expenditure incurred by Boarders, will be debited in full on the first payment of each term. Fees will be charged as follows:
| AUTUMN TERM 2010 |
6TH SEPTEMBER; 5TH OCTOBER; 5TH NOVEMBER |
| SPRING TERM 2011 |
7TH JANUARY; 7TH FEBRUARY; 7TH MARCH |
| SUMMER TERM 2011 |
5TH APRIL; 5TH MAY; 6TH JUNE
|
A fee account, detailing all charges, will be sent out prior to the beginning of each term.
For existing parents already on the Direct Debit scheme, the mandate you completed previously will automatically apply to any siblings joining the Academy this year, so you need take no further action.
Interest of 2% per month will be charged an all outstanding balances, and you should be aware that, depending on the circumstances, should you regularly default on Direct Debit payments you may be required to leave the scheme and pay fees in full by the start of each term.
Where more than two children of the same family attend the Academy concurrently, tuition fees for the third sibling, and subsequent siblings, are reduced by half.
The children of Forces families who are in receipt of the Continuing Education Allowance will receive a 10% reduction on the full tuition and boarding fee.
A full term’s written notice of the withdrawal of a pupil is required, failing which one term’s fees in lieu of notice will be charged for both tuition and boarding, as appropriate.
Any queries about the Direct Debit scheme and fee payments in general should be directed to the Bursar’s Office on 01259 742401, or email bursar@dollaracademy.org.uk If, at any point, you need to stop paying fees by Direct Debit you must contact the Bursar’s Office at least 7 days before the next payment is due.
BOARDING BURSARIES
As the Assisted Places Scheme in the school has now been completely phased out by the government, the Governors have offered limited funding to support bursaries for boys and girls entering Dollar Academy as boarders in Form l at the age of twelve. The tuition school fee, £3,270 per term in the Senior School, will require to be paid in full. The boarding element, currently £4,191 per term, will have bursary support. Parental income will be assessed, but bursaries of up to 50% of the boarding fee will be offered to boys and girls who do particularly well in the Entrance Examination.
The Governors have recommended that high standards be attached to these bursaries, and Dollar Academy pupils who have been awarded them will be re-assessed each year, as will their financial circumstances. The intention, is, however, to provide significant support to a number of boys and girls throughout their senior school careers.
FEE REMISSION POLICY
From the outset it should be recognised that the Governors have limited resources to support families who experience financial difficulties once their children have started their education at Dollar. No specific fund exists at present to support such cases, and in most instances, the Governors will simply be unable to offer support. Families with pupils about to enter Form 1 may be able to access the bursary scheme, details of which are available on the school’s website. In other cases consideration may be given to pupils in Forms 4 and 5 to allow completion of the next phase of public examinations by ensuring continuity of curriculum in that regard. Only in the most exceptional circumstances will pupils in Form 6 be considered. Pupils in the Prep and Junior schools will not be considered, nor, ordinarily, will pupils in Forms 1, 2 and 3. Awards of assistance will be means tested and will be granted only if sufficient funds are available. Any decision made by the Governors will be final and there is no right of appeal. In the case of any award of assistance parents or guardians must inform the Bursar, in writing, of any material change in their financial position without delay. In some cases this may obviously lead to the withdrawal of any award.
