Junior pupils in Titanic assembly
Dollar Academy class J2D hosted an assembly at the school this morning with a beautiful performance depicting the story of the Titanic, which sank in 1912.
A total of 24 pupils took part in the production, managed by class teacher Mrs Monika Harewood and staged in front of over 400 pupils and teachers from the Prep and Junior school.
The class had been studying the Titanic since last term so their dramatic performance referenced many historic facts from the famous maritime disaster, accompanied by music including an all-cast rendition of ‘Nearer My God to Thee’, claimed to be the last song played by the band of the Titanic before the ship disappeared beneath the icy waves.
Commenting on their assembly, Mrs Alison Morrison, Head of Prep and Junior school at Dollar Academy said: “The assembly today marks the culmination of a lot of hard work and preparation by the pupils and their teacher. They did themselves proud with such a poignant and factually informative performance, which thoroughly engrossed their audience.”
Performance opportunities are considered vital at Dollar and children of all ages at the school are encouraged to develop their communication skills in this way.
