Junior School Science Fair 2013
The annual Junior School Science Fair took place on Wednesday, 20 February, in the main Assembly Hall of Dollar Academy. There are 80 pupils in the Junior 2 year group, each of whom had dedicated a great deal of time, outside of lessons, to producing an individual Science project.
The variety and standard of projects was, once again, most impressive. The displays produced by the children were vividly colourful and rich with fascinating information.
As in previous years, the projects were judged by eminent scientists from a range of academic and industrial backgrounds; pupils and staff alike were grateful that these individuals were so generous in giving up their time to assist with the Science Fair. The judges all commented on how enthusiastic and articulate the children were in presenting their projects.
Class winners this year were Callum Hudd and Scott Ritchie (J2C), Brooke McMullan and Ellie Lapsley (J2D), Andrew King and Claire Jack (J2H), Sam Bracken and Karen Taljard (J2N). And the overall winner of the Junior School Science Fair 2013 was Aidan Humphrey (J2D). His project, ‘Make Your Mind Up!’, offered a fascinating and thorough study of the ways in which we are influenced by the views and opinions of others.
As always, the Junior School Science Fair was a tremendously successful event, enjoyed by all. It is evident that these young pupils relish the opportunity to challenge themselves and prove that, despite their youth, they are most capable and inquisitive scientists.
