Prep Pumpkin Investigation

Prep 1 spent a week investigating pumpkins.  In mathematics, they measured the pumpkins in various ways, put them in order of size and estimated the number of seeds they might find inside.  Later in the week the children used the letters of the word “pumpkin” to make new words.  The children came up with adjectives to describe the pumpkins before and after opening them.   Art activities involved creating a large pumpkin for class display.  The children found out lots about the history of the pumpkin and where in the world it can be grown.  On Friday, Hallowe’en, all the pumpkins were opened and scooped out.  The children helped to carve faces into the pumpkins and they were all lit with tea lights in the afternoon in time for  Hallowe’en story time!
