Intermediate Drama

Earthquake detected in Dollar
On 23 January 2011, at 06:02, the Dollar Academy Seismometer detected tremors from an earthquake centred in Glenuig, Scotland. The tremor registered an intensity of 4 on the European Macroseismic Scale, which is sufficiently strong for household objects to rattle and swing.

Boarding rated 'Excellent'
Following an unannounced inspection visit by the Care Commission in December 2010, the official rating on Dollar’s boarding has been raised from Level 5 “ Very Good” to the top grading of Level 6 “Excellent”.

In the middle of Shakespeare’s enigmatic late play, The Winter’s Tale, the young prince asks his mother what kind of story she would like him to tell. “As merry as you will”, she replies, and in the event her words also provided a very apt description of the Advanced Higher trip to the Royal Shakespeare production of the play at The Roundhouse in London.

Pipe Band Visit Sri Lanka
Some people went to extraordinary lengths to avoid the end-of-year arctic conditions – 5500 miles to be precise, for 5 members of the Dollar Academy Pipe Band who travelled from Dollar to Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka as guests of the Caledonian Society of Sri Lanka.

Commonwealth Success!
Jen McIntosh, yesterday, became Scotland's most successful athlete of the Delhi Commonwealth Games, firing her way to gold in the 50m prone singles to match her pairs display with Kay Copland, and her 3P pairs bronze. Jen recorded a near faultless score of 597 ex 600 over six cards to record a new Games record, smashing the previous score by a significant seven points and equaling the current World Record.
