Economics Trip to London, December 2011

The first Economics trip for a number of years took place in mid December 2011 with 19 pupils from Forms V and VI accompanied by three members of staff. The aim of the trip was to help to improve pupils’ economic understanding of the real world with visits to The Bank of England, The London Metal Exchange, Bloombergs, Canary Wharf and the new Olympic site. The highlight of the trip by far was however, a visit, very kindly organised by an FP based in New York (Richard Cartwright), to Barclays Capital at Canary Wharf where pupils got to see how their Equities trading floor operated and to hear what financial derivatives were.
More cultural visits included a well known west end theatre production (‘Chicago’), ice skating next to the Tower of London, a London sight seeing bus / boat trip, Harrods and Regents Street. With the success of this trip another trip is now planned for December 2013.
