DOLLAR ACADEMY AND THE RUGBY WORLD CUP 2011

Scotland coach Andy Robinson’s announcement of the Scotland World Cup squad has confirmed the place of local boys John Barclay, Graeme Morrison and Rory Lawson in the final selection. All three are former pupils of Dollar Academy.
The team was unveiled at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh on Tuesday 23rd August, and three young Dollar Academy pupils were there to meet their idols and wish them luck for the forthcoming tournament in New Zealand.
The Rugby World Cup tournament begins in Auckland on 10th September with the Scotland team facing Romania in the first of their Pool B matches. The side has been drawn in a tough group, but the players are hoping to maintain their record of reaching the knock-out stages as they have done in every World Cup to date.
Dollar Academy has always had an outstanding reputation for rugby and Rob Moffat, previously coach of the Edinburgh professional side, recently joined the PE Department at the school. Last week, Scotland’s scrummaging coach Massimo Cuttita took a three hour training session with the school’s 1st XV. Dollar Academy has also recently unveiled a new on-site sports physiotherapy service for its pupils.
