Fundraising Dinner a Success
The 1st XV Rugby and 1st XI Hockey squads are busily preparing to head off on their South Africa Tour on 28 March for 11 days. On Friday, 22 February, a very successful fundraising dinner for the trip took place at Solsgirth House.
Guest speakers at the dinner were Alan Lawson, ex-Scotland scrum-half and current President of the SRU, and also Pauline Stott, who is a Scotland and ex-Great Britain hockey international. She was Captain of the team at the Sydney Olympic Games) and, over her career, she has accumulated a highly impressive total of 203 international caps.
Over £25 000 was raised on the evening, thanks to very kind donations from many generous individuals. The evening included a drinks reception, Pipe Band display, and a most delicious meal. Entertainment over the course of the evening included auctions and dancing.
The evening was organised by Mr Rob Moffat (PE Department), who was ably assisted by the Fundraising Committee members, Mandy Haldane and Tina King. Mr Hose (PE Department) said, ‘A very enjoyable night was had by all.’
The South Africa Tour departs for Cape Town on Monday, 28 March. The rugby team will play three matches on the trip while the girls will take part in a national tournament.
The tour organisers would like to express their gratitude to all those who assisted in the organisation of the evening and, especially, to those who made donations.
