Russian Exchange
For the second year running a group of Dollar pupils spent a week in Moscow at the Mir Znaniy school, learning some basic Russian, attending classes in History, Music and Chemistry and discovering some of the cultural treasures lurking within the Russian capital. Although the May weather was rather colder and wetter than expected, the spirits of the Dollar group were in no way dampened as they visited Red Square and paid their respects to Vladimir Lenin in his granite mausoleum. Further excursions to Stalin’s secret wartime bunker and the towering Moscow University building gave the pupils an insight into the city’s past and present. By the end of the week it was clear that all seven pupils would gladly have stayed a little longer, making more friends amongst the school community and learning more crucial Russian phrases. They will, though, have the opportunity to dust off the odd “Da” and “Nyet” later this year when some Russian pupils will hopefully make the return journey and enjoy some reciprocal Dollar hospitality
