A Welcome from the Rector
Welcome to Dollar Academy, a co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged from 5 to 18, set in a location of stunning natural beauty between the university cities of Stirling and St Andrews, about 40 minutes north of Edinburgh.
Dollar has an outstanding academic reputation and is firmly rooted in the great strengths of the Scottish educational system, which has always been admired for its breadth and excellence. Pupils from Dollar are highly successful in winning places at top universities, not only in Scotland and other parts of the United Kingdom, but around the world. A truly excellent education, however, is about far more than that. We believe in developing the whole person, aiming to ensure that our pupils leave here with the confidence, enthusiasm, independence, skills and understanding needed to meet successfully the challenges of university and beyond.
We have a large co-curricular programme, and get great joy out of seeing young people surprise themselves by achieving success in activities that they have never tried before. This, together with the positive and friendly atmosphere, helps pupils to develop the self-confidence, social skills and character that can contribute so much to success and happiness in later life.
Dollar boarders play a particularly important role in the life of the school and come from all parts of Britain, as well as overseas. Many former pupils choose to send their children here. The three boarding houses are all beautiful buildings, with excellent modern facilities and committed Houseparents who view the boarders as an extended family. Day pupils travel from a wide range of areas, using an extensive coach network.
There can be few schools as welcoming and friendly as Dollar: perhaps that explains why pupils make friends for life here, and why so many former pupils come back to visit us, and to tell us their latest news.
Dollar is not only about preparation for a future life: it is a great place to be right now!
